What Databases do we have? The Overlake Hospital Medical Library licenses a wide variety of subscription databases which provide access to information found in journals and books as well as other resources. It also provides access to a wide variety of databases which are free for anyone to use. The following databases are accessed through subscriptions and therefore access is restricted to OHMC physicians, nurses, allied health staff, and employees affiliated with Overlake Hospital Medical Center.
ACPMedicine covers all 15 subspecialties of internal medicine serves as a comprehensive resource for guidance on clinical decision-making. CINAHL - CINAHL®, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, is the most comprehensive resource for nursing and allied health literature. This is available on Ovid. You can limit your search to just this particular database. If you need help there are two good tutorials:

Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) Tutorial Harrison's Online is the web version of Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine, one of the world’s leading textbooks of medicine. These can be used to give yourself a quick refresher on virtually any medical condition or act as a trustworthy clinical reference. Remote users please contact the library staff for a user name and password. HEALTHSTAR - The HealthSTAR database provides access to the published literature of health services technology, administration, and research. This database is available on Ovid You can limit your search to just this particular database. A tutorial is available. MDConsult - To obtain a user ID and password you need to register. MD Consult provides access to leading medical books, over 50 full text journals, Yearbooks and Clinics of North America, drug information, online medical news, images and a wide variety of other resources. You can limit your search to a specific journal or clinics title by choosing the one you are interested in and clicking on it. You can also limit by author, date, clinical focus, age and/or study group. Medical textbooks are directly linked by clinical specialty from our Online Textbooks page. For a tutorial on how to use MD Consult try: Medline This database is considered the world's most comprehensive source of life sciences and biomedical bibliographic information, with nearly eleven million records. Medline is available through Ovid and also is available free on the Internet through the database PubMed. An OVID tutorial for Medline is available. Ovid - You do not need a password if you are searching within Overlake Hospital. Contact the librarian for the username and password if you are searching remotely. Ovid provides access to several online textbooks as well as full text journals. It actually is a database of databases. Our subscription to Ovid provides access to Medline (from 1950-present) as well as resources in Nursing (CINAHL) and health (HEALTHSTAR). Consult one of the following tutorials for assistance with searching OVID.
ProQuest Direct - You do not need a password if you are searching within Overlake Hospital. Contact the librarian for the username and password if you are searching remotely. ProQuest is a resource of electronic collections containing millions of articles originally published in magazines, newspapers, and journals. It covers a diversity of topics from a wide variety of disciplines. Consult the list of online full text journals available. A tutorial on how to use Proquest can be found at: Science

Tutorial. Up To Date -- The Up to Date database is only available in the Doctor's Lounge at Overlake Hospital. UpToDate provides up to date medical information on over 7000 topics. It includes a drug database as well as links to Medline abstracts, illustrations and texts. Our version is updated every four months. An UpToDate Tutorial is available here.
The NLM Gateway allows users to search in multiple retrieval systems at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The current Gateway searches a wide variety of databases, the earliest beginning in 1965. Databases available include MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus, AIDS Meetings, Health Services Research Meetings, HSRProj, MEDLINEplus and DIRLINE. See the Overview for details.
