SERVICES

Information Requests

Library staff is available to respond to most information needs you may have. Simply filling out our Information Request Form with your specific requirements will begin the process. All information included in your request remains confidential, private and is never shared in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Literature Searching

The Library Staff will run literature searches on patient care, research, education and management issues on a same day basis at no charge to the patron. We also have excellent networked bibliographic searching systems (
Ovid, MDConsult [contact library staff for information regarding off-site access], and PubMed).

Our subscription to Ovid provides access to Medline and other health-related databases. With some simple instructions, you too can create as simple or complex a topical search as fits your needs.

MDConsult provides a common search interface to 45 full text clinical journals including Year Books and Clinics of North America series, over 51 medical textbooks, practice guidelines, drug information, continuing medical education, and patient education handouts. Provides references to other journal articles. A one-time registration is required to establish your login and password; this personalized login and password is to be used for subsequent access. Contact library staff for registration requirements.

We have created a MEDLINE FactSheet providing an overview of the National Library of Medicine's MEDlars onLINE database, now known as PubMed, with links to specific search aids within the database.

For your convenience there are two public access workstations available in the library for literature searching. Personalized instruction is available by contacting Library Staff.

Electronic Library

There are a growing number of networked resources available through the library. Currently we have
ACPMedicine, and Harrison's Online. ACPMedicine covers all 15 subspecialties of internal medicine serves as a comprehensive resource for guidance on clinical decision-making. Harrison's Online is the web version of Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine, one of the world’s leading textbooks of medicine. These can be used to give yourself a quick refresher on virtually any medical condition or act as a trustworthy clinical reference.

There is also a list of Online Textbooks that will take you directly to free accessible textbooks on the Internet. Some of these books may be duplicated on some of our other library pages with some password protected.

COLLECTION AND CIRCULATION POLICIES

Library Collection

The library contains a selective, current collection of many of the most frequently used books and journals in clinical medicine. We have approximately 200 current journal subscriptions, with most being held for the past 5 - 10 years (many of those with online links to their web site) available for access simply by clicking on our
Journal Holdings List. Please consult the list of Journals Currently Held/Received, available in the library, for specific holdings information. ProQuest Direct available through the Internet (look for the icon on library computers or contact library staff for login instructions) is all about searching for articles originally published in magazines, newspapers and journals. Many articles may be available in full-text with graphics. Look for the OHMC logo when perusing the results of your PubMed search. This will linkout to the full-text journal publisher provider we have a subscription to. Access to both the Journal Holdings List and ProQuest Direct may be limited to those with access to Overlake Hospital Medical Center's network validated by our IP address. If there are questions, please contact library staff. Online Textbooks are also available directly at your desktop. In addition, full text journals and textbooks are also available through our subscriptions to both Ovid, and MDConsult.

Materials are available in both print and non-print formats for check-out or use in the library.

Our check out policy is as follows:

*Books and audiovisual materials may be checked out for two weeks

*Reference books and journals
